I'm fascinated with the complex relationship between the human body and human mind in working together to achieve the most balanced state of wellness. I believe this stasis is reached by identifying one's unique individual needs then building actions, and ultimately habits to support positive behaviors around movement, stress management, and nutrition to meet those wellness needs.

I studied psychology and biology in college, with an emphasis on human anatomy, physiology, and athletic training. I've been recognized by the National Academy of Sports Medicine as Certified Personal Trainer and by USA Track and Field as a Certified Run Coach. I’m also a Level 4 USA Hockey Coach with a specialization in strength, conditioning, nutrition, and coaching education.

I'm always evaluating the worthiness of and working towards key specializations to expand my skill set within the scope of applied fitness, wellness, and behavior modification. As of January 2018, I'm currently working toward my advanced degree in nutrition science and behavior change theory and application.

While my classroom and supervised lab training is quite important, I have vast hands-on experience working with athletes and wellness seekers at all levels and with diverse individual needs. This experience has primarily been in the form of working in partnership with variety of health and wellness professionals in a setting that has served a mutual client/patient. These have included general practitioners (MDs), chiropractors, metabolic specialists, podiatrists, cardiologists, Olympic and professional athletes, and sports teams. These valuable partnerships have allowed me to observe, learn, build, and apply wellness strategies and fitness training plans in helping individuals achieve their goals. I carry forward this diverse experience in applied wellness as the foundation of my unique ability to effectively match fitness- and wellness-specific modalities to individual goals and objectives of athletes and wellness seekers of all abilities and those at any stage of change.

As part of my recent professional experience outside of wellness, I've held various roles from project manager to private banker in the finance industry. Previous to those roles, I was a team leader and corporate training coach. I've lead work teams as large as 150+ associates spread over a large geographical footprint. This experience has helped my build my core competencies around observing performance, assessing results, building action plans, and encouraging behavior change to fit desired performance and outcome.

The Personal Stuff:

I'm a husband to a wonderful partner and a Dad to two very active boys. I live in Reston, Virginia - just outside of Washington, DC. I run a small business (...this one!), I have a mortgage, bills, help with school carpool, share in managing kids activities, love to have fun and at the same time have all the wellness and health concerns you may have as we get older.

To add some balance into my life, I'm an avid age-group athlete. Not a 'weekend warrior', but I'm not what I would consider fast or 'elite'. I'm an experienced runner, swimmer, and cyclist having participated in over 100 triathlons, 25 marathons, a handful of ultra-marathons and many other endurance events since the late 1980s. I've been entirely self-coached.

My personal experience in fitness and health has not been without it's challenges. After successful completion of Ironman Lake Placid in 2011 - my 100th triathlon - fitness and overall wellness was no longer a priority. Boy, was that a mistake! Upon going through some serious soul-searching, I identified some key changes I needed to make to my active life and nutritional habits. This changed my life and and may have even saved my life! The results have been incredible: Weight drop of over 50 lbs, vastly improved bio-markers, improved muscular endurance, more efficient training protocols, and faster race times. Oh, and I just feel better!
